I was wondering how most ppl go about heating rather large rubbermaid conatainers (3ft by 1-1/2)? what kind of spacing you use (between tank and say UTH) if any, and how both ends are kept warm?
thanks

I currently use a rubbermaid box 20 x 12. I use a Dragon's Lair Heat Mat for the warm side regulated by a thermostat. The heat mat is attached directly to the bottom of the box with foil tape. For the cool side I use a human heating pad set on low. The box is setting directly on the heating pad. I've never had any problem with this set-up. My substrate is paper towels. I have a hide box over each heat source with a water bowl in the middle. It's a cheap but effective set-up and my ball python has been thriving in this environment for 1 3/4 years. I've added a couple of ornamental aqaurium logs for a rough surface to aid in shedding. He is 38 inches long and about 900 grams. I use a heat gun to measure temperatures and a hygrometer in the box to measure humidity. I have about $135.00 total invested in the enclosure.
A UTH from the Bean Farm is used on my 30 and 90 qts. I use the 4 and 11 inch models.
The Rubbermaid sits on a 1/2 inch styrofoam pc. The UTH is secured with aluminum tape to the styrofoam. Rubbermaid sits on this. The heat is controlled/ maintained with a Ranco thermostat. Heat used in the back area only.

All my Rubbermaid containers are painted white on the outside to give the BP's the privacy they crave. I use Gesso paint only. Non-toxic and dries in minutes.
