These were all over in the Cancun area resort I was at recently.

Largest I saw was 4' + from head to tail.

Gray with blackish gray banding, in the shape of inverted triangles (sort of) more noticeable on the tail.

Seems that the bigger ones had more iguana like spines, and I'm pretty sure had the typical circle scale on the jowles, but I'll have to finish going through my CF cards and find some more examples later.

That looks like a female Spinytail Iguana, probably a Ctenosaura similis considering you saw some up to 4 feet long. They do not have the large subtympanic scale that Green Iguanas do. They do have whorls of spiny scales on their tails. Color on these can really vary. Here are photos of my large male and one of my females.
