Sun Glo or Heat Glo?

sugadreams Nov 18, 2004 06:08 AM

Hello =)

My question is about the basking lamp I use for my cham, he is a veiled cham about 7 mos old, his body is about 3 and a half maybe 4 inches and i use a 50W Sun glo bulb for his basking spot,however I have seen Heat Glo lamps and was wondering what the difference and if I should be using the Heat Glo instead of the Sun Glo? Any ideas/comments are most helpful! =)

Those terribly overpriced pieces of glass and metal are a waste of the 6 or 7 bucks they cost!

Just make sure you have a good reflector lamp (frmo a pet store or hardware store, either one) and use a NORMAL house bulb. You can use the clear or frosted ones, but the frosted ones add a yellowish tinge to everything in the enclosure. Use the same wattage as you would normally use with a "basking" bulb.

This should save you several tens of dollars a year! Those basking bulbs tend to explode if sprayed with water too...normal bulbs rarely do so and if they do, its a loss of about 80 cents instead of six dollars.

Hope this helped
