If residents in NY own any of the banned animals prior to the date the ordinance takes effect (Jan. 2005), they are allowed to keep them and must apply for some ridiculously expensive permit within 60 days. The banned animals cannot be sold or bred.

By stocking up, I meant I have a few more shows to buy the snakes I want before they are banned and I can no longer buy or breed them.
Eric was pretty much on the money, although I'm not sure how much the permits are going to cost, or how much the 4 hour course, if there is one, will be either. I don't think it's been decided yet.
