Zee regarding BIG JOHN !

Keith Hillson Nov 18, 2004 08:16 AM

I emailed Kevin Enge and sent him your pic of that male and he thinks it looks like one of his offspring from his Echols Co. male and Tift Co. female. Kevin's exact words were

Yes, that looks like one of my offspring from the Tifton female both in terms
of coloration and pattern.

Take a look at the female Tift Co. she look alot liek your male.

This would explain why your male looks so similar to mine and why he is so damn big! This isnt 100% but Im guessing in fact your male is from these animals.

I've attached a dorsal view of the wide banded male from Will Still to illustrate what I'm writing about. Big John seems to have one wide band that has a black bullseye in the center. My male has three bands with a bullseye. Has anyone else noticed this trait from this line of snakes?

Hey guys,

I've hatched many with that partial bulls-eye pattern. I kind of think it is a recessive trait, as all of my GA females throw a few bulls-eye type babies with each clutch, but none of the breeders express the trait themselves. Actually.....I think I'm gonna keep the ones that I still have from this year, raise 'em up, and see what happpens. Keith buddy, I forgot that you hat tit-head. He was a keeper, I should have held onto him.

Yeah I shoulda kept him but it was a time when I was looking at the collection and realized I had tons o' males. Plus I had the other male and he was IMHO better looking. Tit head huh ? lol

I also asked Kevin how long he has been producing Kings with that pair and its been 13 years ! So they have been quite prolific for him.

That IS some very intersting news. . . As you know Big John IS big, but he doesn't seem that old. He acts like a 3-4 footer with lots of energy. Taking pics of him is a challenge. He never seems to stop moving! And he hits hard at feeding time. Got scars to prove it LOL! Once again thanks Keith, for taking the time!
Can't wait to see his babies next summer! Should be some nice ones coming from him and that female you sent me! (BIG and BEAUTIFUL!)

No I didnt think yours is that old but I just wanted to point out that he has been bangin out Easterns from that pair for quite some time. Look like maybe we found out the history behind your snake !

The large size is also a good hint (of where he may be from) I think. I know he's been growing quite fast. His head is almost the same size as my 63" Florida Kingsnake, but his (Big John) length is . . . well 76 inches!

I think thats pretty damn cool ! You have a F1 and there will be no more as Kevin's female hasnt produced in the last couple of years but did unexpectedly lay a clutch this year with only one baby hatching out. I think she pretty much is tapped out as she is pretty damn old. The other young male you have is Kevin's Echols Co. male to one of his daughters I believe.

kings from Kevin. He told me the day I bought them that they were offspring from that giant male and one of his daughters.

Thanks again , Keith
