Just received a new 1,985 gram CB Female, and as I was unpacking her, I noticed something that looked strange, to me at least, with her nose. Can you guys check it out and tell me if I should be concerned? Thanks!

Just looks like her heat pits...looks perfectly fine to me...what is it that you see?

I was concerned with the red, inflamed looking nostrils.

Is there a tick in that red, inflamed heat pit?

No, I looked in with a magnafying glass, no foreign object. I suppose it could have happened during shipping.

I spoke with the person I got her from and sent him the picture, he said it didn't look like that when he shipped her yesterday.

I had a female shipped to me from the west coast were it was warm, so the person shipping her actually put a cold pack in with her, but I live in NY and at the time it was only in the low 60's here. Needless to say she was freezing cold and she had a bright red nose when I opened up the box. I was a little mad about the cool pack, but she turned out fine and in the spring she gave me 7 eggs. And oh yeah her nose returned to normal shortly after I got her home.

Here is what I think. I believe that is happend during shipping, It looks like the snake rubbed his nose on the mesh bag he was in, I have seen this happen before. I say it wouldn't be a problem, It should heal fine by the next shedding. If you wanted to put some Triple Antibiotic Ointment on the sore spot that should help. Hope that helps, David

I agree, it is most likely from rubbing. What you may want to consern your self with at this point is more rubbing. I would be sure to have multiple hides and keep well fed untill the next shed. Food and shelter are always impotant but even more so now. If stressed for any reason the snake may continue to rub. Point being, it does not look like a problem as long as it does not get worse. One more thing. I would go with paper towles or newspaper as substrate untill it is healed for sure. I would stay clear of any dirt or mulch for the mean time. Hope this helps.

I just went to check on her and everything looks normal. Not sure if it was due to her being shipped w/ no heat packs and being cold, or if she had been rubbing it on the mesh bag during shipping. I will continue to watch her but looks to be a non-issue at this time. Thanks for your inputs!
