I REALLY HAVE MY HANDS FULL!

anson Nov 18, 2004 09:57 AM

Literally. The babies now range in age from 3 weeks old to five days old. I ended up with 21 babies from a clutch of 19! Hey, how did that happen? I made the mistake of trying to make more room and putting 2 eggs from another clutch in with these while incubating and when these hatched it triggered those 2 eggs to hatch a bit prematurely. The preemies are really tiny! They sit curled up most of the day and are not very active. I am not sure if those two will make it or not but they are trying to hang in there. They drink and eat but don't look as good as their siblings. The ones in this picture are the oldest ones. I can't wait till they start showing their Nosey Be Blue coloration. The father is a great blue and teal color and he is WC and old so I am glad his genes were passed on. He is very healthy too just like his mate. She never has missed a meal not even before laying so these kids are from really healthy large parents. Baisically I bred for size and vigor. I am really surprized that my first clutch of panthers is doing so well. I really had expected to lose a baby or two by now. I lost several in the first two weeks when I hatched out my first clutch of Veileds.
These seem to be doing much better than the veileds did.

They're mighty cute!

Hope the little ones make it...though they may end up dying later on in life, just let nature take its course and hopefully theyll pull through!

Cool pic. I hope everyone makes it to the third month. But don't let your current success with them catch you off guard though,as you can experience some deaths even when they are almost two month of age, eventhough they are eating well and seem very healthy. The ones that make it after the 2 and a half month mark are usually the ones that live on to go to new homes.

How many months were the premies incubating before they hatched? I can't remember, but was it more than 9 months that the rest of this clutch was incubating? Anyway, Nice "accesories"!

The older ones are from 12/23/2003
I always expect some to not make it because some are always born with some health problem or defect and it's just natures way for some to not make it.
With the clutch of Veileds that I had the ones with problems were obvious right away. I do have this clutch at work with me all day so I am better able to keep them hydrated and feed more often. You can see when temps are wrong or if they need water right away. I am like a doting mother hen! LOL
It will really be sad to see some die. This clutch means a lot to me because Salvador is my first herp ever and I really wanted some offspring of his. He was just able to do the job with this clutch. Now when I try mating him he nods his head at the female and gets starry eyed then climbs on and falls asleep right on her from all the exertion! Poor old guy! It's awful getting old!

They are too delicate now. Plus I have not decided how many I will keep yet. I always want them all till they start eating me out of house and home.
That is how it went with my Veiled chameleons. I wanted to keep a bunch but ended up only keeping two of them.
Luna (Lele's cham) was one of them. Boy she lucked out. She has a really great mom.
I have Veileds incubating now too so once they hatch and add to the food bill I will have to sell most of them.
I am really attached to the little cuties. Panthers are my favorites and the Nosy Be especially because they are always their bright colors for whatever reason. My Ambanja don't constantly display their bright colors like my Nosey Be.

OMG could they get any cuter? I love the way you have one on each finger, that's great. Congrats on the babies! I added a new page last week to my website for cute pics I find online. I sure would love to add this one to the page, it's really really really cute!
