Does anyone have an excellent close up of a rat snake head showing the scalation well ? I give lectures on taxonomy and would like to make a side by side comparison of Pituophis (4 prefrontals), mexican Pits (2 prefrontals) and rats (2 prefrontals). The pic is not for publication, just for school lectures on powerpoint.

thanks very much in advance

There's a drawing of a black rat's head scalation at the bottom of this page: http://www.marshall.edu/herp/Grad_Students/Adam_Ratsnake.htm

Here's an actual pic of my corn's face scalation. It was much more clear and easier to see before I had to shrink it to fit on kingsnake.com Anyway, hope that helps.

I can barely see the scales on those . Great pics! One day I'll figure out how to get pics like that. They are truely works of art!

Here is a black rat that was found in a tree. He hung around long enough for a pic.
