trouble with cwds---need help!

mixitup Nov 18, 2004 03:08 PM

sorry, its kind of a long post, but I figured I'd try to explain most of it to see if anyone can help me.
skip to the **** ifyou dont want to read the other stuff.

I was housing my two young water dragons in a 30 gallon tank for about 5 months. I knew they would need a much bigger tank when they are adults, so When they started growing, I realized I need something larger. I thought I would be able to get one that is big enough, but I definitly want to build one now so it can be very large.
They needed something in the mean time though, so I moved them both into a 90 gallon tank. They were a little brown when I moved them, and I figured I would give them a week or so , since they might be stressed.

*****WELL, its been a few weeks now, and they are VERY brown, I am really worried.
They have a a ceramic heater, full spec. UVB/UVA light, a water dish they can submerge in, a water fall, a little under tank heater, brances to climb on, and fake plants. They have a couple basking spots, one at 95 (highest), 90, and ones bewteen and lower. I also mist them 2-3 times a day.
They are eating fine right now, but I am worried that they could get sick, or an infection very easily since they seem so brown. Can anyone help me, or any advice? Thanks so much, I really don't know what to do.

Hmmmm. If they are eating fine, then that's a good sign. Are they laying around a lot??? Also, what kind of substrate are you using?? I just moved my guy into a bigger tank this weekend. He's a sub adult, and he was moody and sort of dark for a day or two. He adjusted fairly. Maybe they just haven't adjusted yet.

I use Repti-bark sort of thing..
and they are fairly active, the go to bask, climb on thier waterfall and go soak in their water.
They are still quite brown, I'm not sure what to do. They are eating fine, which is good, I'm worried that they might stop, then there will be trouble, so I want to fix it before that happens.

My sub female went a dark shade when we first moved her into her new cage and we found that her branches we not close enough to the uv light source so we suspended some branches about 4 inches below the light and her colour improved no end , I dont know if this is the problem with your CWD but you could try and see if it helps any

Any chance they're getting ready to shed? Mine always brown up and get kind of "dull" looking for a week or two before they shed.
