My friend owns a pet store. After wotk I decided to go visit and see what he had to sell me today. Well right after I arrived a man brought this guy in(for the second time). He wanted to sell it for about half what he paid for it the first time and my friend didn't want to buy it. Well he brought it back today and sold it to him for $20. . .yeah $20. So I snatched it up and traded my friend a male tricolor poss double het ghost honduran for this guy and took him home. Here are some pictures enjoy. . .I'm sure I will!!!!!

Okay so I dont look too much like an a$$. . .my friend is fully aware of my opinion on the genetics of this animal. Also the guy mentioned that the animal came from New York. . .Anyone ship a pastel to Daytona area this year. He said he bought it before the show and hurricanes?

The first pics look pastel to me. I can see the faded head and the bright yellow color towards the belly is typical, but it just looks like a darker pastel. BTW, red makes for a horrible backgound color for taking herp pics. Have fun.....and nice find.

I don't see anything that would make it a pastel. The colors are very brown and muted and the head is not very light.. It could just be the camera. Try taking pics outside. the snake on the magazine makes the pic crowded and confusing. Post another pic with her outside

I have seen pastels that look that bad or maybe it is a nice looking sibling. It could be a pastel I guess. I would still buy that snake for 20$..might even go up to $30.

I agree, It doesn't look like a pastel but it kinda does also. I can see a whitish tint on the back of the snakes head and it does have a yellowish color over the whole pattern. I have a few male I got that looks like a pastel but I am unsure of her, I guess you will have to breed her and see, for 20.00 you can't lose.

It doesn't seem that there is a yellow stripe in the eye of this snake. It seems odd that you cannot tell by just the color but if it is a pastel you will be able to see a yellow stripe in the top of the eye. Hope it works out for the best.

..clear as in free of any markings, just white.

Still a nice find whether she is a pastel or not.

I would bet its a Pastel. Great find for the price! Worth every chance. I would feed it up and see how the colors begin to change. Keep us posted.

So what is your criteria for identifying a pastel? Any got to have eye or belly appearance?

asfreptiles Nov 21, 2004 02:10 PM

Color, pattern, belly, eye color.

The pattern on that ball absolutely looks like a pastel. Yellow color is not great but doesn't look like average brown ball python. I have not seen belly or eye color but I would say that he got the greatest of deals at $20-$40, especially if its a girl.

Does it have to have all 4 points? I just picked one up today at the Atlanta show, not as good a deal as this one LOL but still damn good) and the only thing from that checklist he is missing is the belly...by the tail he has stripes along each side, although the middle band of scales is clear all the way up. His pattern is a reduced version of jungle (very funky) and his coloring isn't bright but goes through the funky gradation along the sides and he has the yellow/gold eye just like that pic. Have to borrow my friends' digi camera to post pics, may take a few days with the Silly Season almost upon us.

Maybe a picture would be best Katrina. All Pastels that I have worked with have clear bellies. I dont go around checking everytihing but I do not have anything that is a question mark in my collection where I would have to check for these 4 pts.

I looked at that snake in Atlanta and I am sorry to say that I do NOT think it was a pastel for 250.00. I looked at that snake very close because I was thinking of getting it. Didn't look like a pastel to me and i have around 7 different ones. But breed it and find out. That snake was a male right? Thanks David

BallPyFan Nov 22, 2004 10:06 PM

Yeah, he's a male. Did you have a booth set up? Someone who had a female pastel who looked quite similar to him looked at my boy pretty close and then handed it back to me saying "Prove it out." Which is what I am hoping to do, as genetics are always a crapshoot. I'll know for sure in 2-3 years...but I think he is, whichis why I am taking the chance. Once I borrow a friend's digital camera I'll post pics.
