Taiwan beauty ratsnakes

showofhands Nov 18, 2004 09:37 PM

Where can I find someone who breeds these snakes? Based on the description offered on centralpets.com, the Taiwan Beauty sounds like a good choice for my next snake. Can you think of any reasons why they wouldn't be a good choice for an amateur snake enthusiast?

Well, the only down sides I can see to these snakes are that they will eat a lot of food (there's the equal amount of cage cleaning involved) and grow to be impressive snakes (my fellow is about 8.5 feet long and I think he's finally slowing down).
They are great snakes if you are prepared for the strong feeding response and the caging requirements. Active and generally alert, they are great candidate for a display cage since they seem to enjoy looking out as much as you enjoy looking in.

Wow, thanks for the prompt response. It makes killing time at work that much easier

When you say they eat a lot, how much are we talking? I'm a college student on a workstudy budget, so would an alternative to the taiwan beauty be a better choice maybe?

I would think so. Staying with the beauty snakes, the Chinese beauty is a smallish form, only getting to about five feet. They grow slower and eat much less, about like a corn snake, maybe a little more....Terry.

That sounds ideal- thanks for the help!

One thing Terry forgot to mention is that there are a few different color morphs of the Chinese beauty, although, they are going to be more expensive, so that may be out of the question since you already said you had a limited budget. The Chinese beauties have interested me just because of that fact. Hey, I love the variety of corns, I don't think I could live with just one morph of a snake. LOL

Amanda, you're right. There's getting to be a lot of morphs with these beauties. I know of at least two kinds of albinos, anerythristic, calico, hypo, and snow. The clutch I got this summer had both green and brown phase babies in it, too. They continue to amaze me. The basic snake is fairly cheap. I think the prices have been coming down on the morphs too. I still have six babies I'll sell in the Spring, which are het. for albino, and I'll probably only try to get around $100/ea. Regulars are probably going for around $40-50/ea, but it's been awhile since I priced them, and I'm guessing on that. Someday they'll probably be like corns.

Nice list of corns, btw. I wouldn't mind seeing a pic of your cinnamon corns, if you can. I'm trying to develop my own strain of those too. Terry.

Um... cinnamon corns? I don't have any of those. Did you mean caramels?

If so, I only have hatchlings, so they look like anery's still:

Here's the amber, not much color on this one yet either:

I made a mistake. I thought I saw cinnamon on your list. At my age I have to constantly be vigilant, or that darn a.d.d. takes over..LOL. Thanks for the pics. TC.
