Digit is this age and he is about 8" SVL and 33" STL. I haven't
measured him in a few months but from what he was last time this
should be pretty accurate.
He is already going through his 1st breeding season (what fun!!)
I did want to mention also that he is going through another
growth spurt right now (incredible appetite and shedding). If
he keeps up at this rate he is going to be a monster I think.
I also wanted to mention that he was a rescue. The shelter
stated his age at 4 months and he was the size of a 4 month
old but did have a fracture from MBD. My vet said he may be
a few months older than initially expected but due to poor care
he wasn't the appropriate size.
Hope this helps
Linda

Guessing growth rate is not an easy job with igs. The two main factors that effect growth rate are enclosure size and diet. If igs are well fed and they have plenty of room to grow in their enclosure, they will grow like crazy. If they're left in a small cage or not fed a great diet or given proper heat/lighting, they will stay much smaller.
My rescue, like others, gets tons of iguana calls and I see some very well cared for igs in the 3-5 year range that are a foot or more longer than 7-10 year old igs that never had room to roam or less-than ideal care.
Also, if I'm not mistaken, I believe males get a little bigger than females, but I'm not sure if you'll notice a difference in growth rate due to this.
I'm always glad to hear when folks say they adopted their pet ig because there are literally thousands of them out there needing new homes so please don't forget about them ig fans!

To tell you the truth, I think this small cage=smaller ig is a mith. Igs will grow don´t matter the size of their enclouser. I´ve seen people raising their igs in a small cage, thinking that they wouldn´t grow as much as they were supposed to, and they got big.
What can cause growth problems is poor health. Lack of UVb lights, proper diet with the right calcium to phosphorous rate. But not small enclousers. So, give your ig a big enclouser.
About males and females, that´s right though, males get bigger than females.
I´m almost sure that the small cage problem is no true.
Take care,
Later,
Dan
