Breeding Ages Question

adshawksfan Nov 18, 2004 10:21 PM

I was wondering how old you can breed a dragon That has never been breed. 4 5 6 years old or is there a limit. I personaly don't have any dragons that old but I was talking to someone who was thinking about doing it and was wondering if it was ok.

There have been rare accidental breedings at 5 months old, but not healthy at all. A lot of breeders start their breeding at 11-12 months, but after doing research it is not a good idea to breed a female less than 18 months and males around 14 months. As far as when to stop, it really depends on the health of the beardie and their past breeding livestyle. I wouldn't breed a dragon over 5 years old, but if the dragon has never breed and is in the 4-6 year range it is a good probability for success, but again this is a late age to start breeding and their could be some complications.....but you can run into issues breeding at any age. It's ultimately up to you buddy though.

I would be leary about breeding a dragon over 4 years old who had never been bred. I don't know if there are any actual health risks but in general with animals, late pregnancies tend to have more risks than animals in their prime. Though bearded dragons can live as long as 10 or more starting to breed them after 5 years could be risky.
