AFT pictures

EBC Nov 18, 2004 10:48 PM

Here's a picture of my new AFT and my set up! He still hasn't eaten but since he's so fat I suppose he's just settling in. He's about 6 inches now, as he gets bigger I plan on moving him to a 20 gallon tank. Thanks to FamilyZoo for the advice and a place to put the pictures.

I got him at a Petsmart in Atlanta, he was $70, I looked at my receipt...it was $100 total because I bought the clamp lamp and red bulb at the same time. He still hasn't eaten and I don't see any waste matter...I wonder if he could be impacted because the pet shop was keeping them on sand. By the way, do you use a calcium dish or dust the crickets or both?

I dust about once a week. Humidity in my setup would cake a dish.

It might be kinda difficult to keep ur humidity maintained w/carpet as ur substrate.....and I have to agree, $75 for an AFT w/a regenerated tail is a bit much, but that's just MHO.

BTW.....I have a male striped like urs, bought him as an adult CB for $45, of course it was @ an herp show & not a petshop, that makes a difference as well. Good Luck w/urs, I hope he eats for you soon.

Petsmarts around here are notoriously overpriced...even the crickets are expensive (18 cents each). Thought his tail looked possibly regenerated, that's why I liked him...I always get the runts, the funny looking ones, etc. Humidity stays at 30-50 percent, I mist his peat moss hides several times daily. In his tupperware humid hide it stays at 80 percent or above. He's been in his humid hide 24/7 the last 2 days, if he doesn't eat soon I'll take him to the herp vet I use at Zoo Atlanta for my snakes. Besides the not eating, he's alert, moves around, bright eyes, no signs of respiratory issues, etc. Mostly I'm worried about impaction because the petstore had him on calci sand.

humidity should be ok then.....just let him settle in for a few days 1st before you panic, his tail looks healthy & meaty enough that he'd be ok for awhile without food.......it also could be the change in season as well.

Thanks to everyone who's been offering help/suggestions. Hopefully he'll eat soon, just wanted to make sure I wasn't doing anything wrong.
