I flipped many a speck in the same general area (probably a few miles south of Bear Creek park on Hwy 6) but never one as cool as that. Congrats!

scottofhouston Nov 19, 2004 01:03 PM

live in this general area. I've herped Bear Creek Park and the surrounding Addicks Resevoir many times. If you dont mind me asking what all did you find in those woods ?
Thnaks for the kind words!

I never had much luck outside of Thamnophis and Nerodia in the Addicks Resevoir area, although I've heard stories. Mainly I used to hunt south of Bellaire, before it was developed, out to a bit past Bissonet and probably as far east as Dairy Ashford. Had success with both specks and prairies, ocassional Texas rat, and lots of eastern hogs. Of course, it's been a good five years since I've been out that way, and probably around ten since I used to catch stuff. I imagine all my old spots are built up by now.
Cheers!

Nice find, man! would love to have a baby (just one - two prefferably) from her! It IS truly nice to find something like that, isn't it?
I know this is the kingsnake forum, but this was my find of the year, (maybe my life), from NC.): The only cornsnake with YELLOW/golden blotches in the world as I was told by the experts. There are yellow corns in existence but NONE with YELLOW blotches. I am a Kingsnake buff, but thought this was a brightly marked prairie king when I first found it crossing the road. . .AND no, it's not "photo shopped"!

looking speckleds in your collection. Are those two a pair? You know, I used to find some like that every now and then on the extreme coastal part of South eastern Louisiana (along the brakish water areas. This nice coloration should be termed the "coastal phase" speckled King - a kind of subspecies! I know that I could never find such a nice specimen in the inland areas of Louisiana. And I have truly found hundreds of speckleds, when living there. Speckleds are very common in Louisiana, (along with texas rat snakes & water moccasins).

I'd have to agree with those comments there. Those are some real nice kings you have there tom. I find yellows like the one I photographed only occassionally but that was byfar the nicest I have layed eyes on. Have any nice looking males in your collection that need a bright yellow female ? See ya around dude.
