Constipated? my female veiled

tanyacska Nov 19, 2004 01:08 PM

Any advice for how to alleviate constipation? I have a two-year old female veiled "Tulip" who is otherwise acting absolutely normally, eating, moving, etc. but it looks to me like she has some dried excrement sticking out (gross, sorry). Is there something I can put in her water or dust her bugs with that will help get things moving again? She seems fine, perhaps I am overreacting as I am known to do with my pets.

Thanks,
Worried Mom

To avoid this in the future simply let her/make her drink some more, or if necessary, decrease time between feedings (if you feed 6 crix every two days for example, feed 3 crix every day.)

In the meantime:
Fill up a CLEAN sink with about 3/4 inch of lukewarm water. Soak her bottom in that for 10-15 minutes and see if she does anything.

If her cloaca is dry as well as the feces that are sticking out, keep an eye on it and consider using a hydrating lotion of some type (i don't know what is safe/ what isnt. But I do know that neo/polysporin is safe but may not hydrate well as it is meant for healing).

Hope she's okay!

THANK YOU for the advice, much appreciated! I have some neosporin at home.

Perhaps she *is* eating too much at once, she is such a good eater and 5-6 every two days is exactly what she's been eating. I'll spread it out.
