PLEASE Help In Deciding What Frog to Put in My Upcoming Vivarium

hornedman Nov 19, 2004 01:23 PM

Hey guys n gals what's going on? I havent seen much traffic on this forum anymore like i used to. I remember coming back to replies to posts in 10 minutes but oh well, for all of you who are still there. I have a albino pacman- have had whites tree frog, green tree frogs, tomato frogs, and fire belly toads. I am in the process of making a nice vivarium but i wasnt certain what to put into it. I am going to have a large water area (filtered) and soem land followed by possible corner islands. What frog(S) would you suggest to add to this tank. I am looking for a frog with gorgeous color and activity. I was thinking red eyed tree frogs but never dealt with them. Can anyone please share advice/comments/suggestions. Aim handle is ogglassworks or respond here, thanks.

Well, red eyes are one of the few species that aren't in deep decline though that might just be speculation. (I am a skeptic with the media). All the expos tend to have large amounts of red eyes in one tank and they seem to enjoy the tops and sides of aquariums. Also, they are more nocturnal so the activity is kinda boring in the day. Still, they are beautiful - moving or not.

I don't know much about red eyes, but my pacific treefrogs are awesome. They are active day and night, and wierd enough, they love to bask. THe regular old ones can be boring, but if you can find some in the wild or on the net, some beautiful patterns can be found. I have personally seen pacific treefrogs that look like there is gold in their skin. Others have green and brown, some are just gray, and i have one that is black. They are really fun, interesting pets. Are you thinking about a community tank? Grass lizards and anoles can live fine with most treefrogs. G
Good luck on the vivarium and your decision!

Terrarriums should be designed around the species to be maintained not vise-versa. Hardy frogs such as White's tree, Green tree, Barking tree, and Leptopelis may be able to adapt to your enclosure with minor modifications, if any.
