Escaped pancake tortoise! Where to start looking?

DaviDC. Nov 19, 2004 02:16 PM

Last night I discovered my hatchling pancake is missing from the enclosure on the dresser in my bedroom. Whether he got out by himself or with the help of a cat is unknown, but where to start looking for something the size of a half dollar?

This isn't the 1st time this has happened but I always caught him soon after getting out. Now he's had at least 2 days to hide. I tried to get the cat to help sniff him out but he wasn't very useful.

...or touch that BUTTON on da washing machine until you sus them clean...

I would put bariers/wall/whatever to block off ALL exits in your HOUSE to prevent further migration.

completely fence-off your bedroom outlets so your cat's won't be able to enter and (hopefully) your lil' bambino still stays inside...after that, I guess you just have turned the place up-side-down...

I bet you know what to do soon you found him/her this last time if you want to be able to sleep at night...

I looked for him extensively this morning when I figured he'd be most active without luck. Every time I went in my bedroom, I swept the perimeter with a bright flashlight looking for him. Every time the cat got near me I asked him where was the tortoise but he was no help at all.

A little while ago I spotted him emerging from the junk stored under my drafting table. He seemed none the worse for wear so I dropped him into the water bowl in the pen where he drank heartily then scurried off to his favorite rock crevice.

The security on the enclosure has been updated I'm hoping I'll never have to go through this again.
