Question about the NY reptile ban.

calienteT1 Nov 19, 2004 03:03 PM

I was wondering are boas on the list of animals that are gonna be banned? I read some things that sayed they were, but then i read things that said Gov. Pataki was gonna revise it. So are they or aren't they on the list? If they are, what are they gonna do about people that already own them? Thankyou

Most likely you would be "grand fathered" in if you already owned the animals on the list I would imagine. Any of these animals should not be that hard to obtain. I have many friends here in NY that have venemous and obtaining them was pretty much a joke, so I wouldn't worry too much about owning a burm or boa. I'm sure you'll have to ask for a permit and at most they will see if you have the adequate housing for the snake and they'll probably tell you to have a blast. A permit for both buying and selling these snakes will probably be the most difficult faction of all of this and I dont think it should be much of a problem. Honestly, I know a 16 year old young man who sent for his venemous permit in the mail, he was asked a few questions and it was sent back via mail. He was basically told to have a good time. Maybe that will calm any tensions anyone has about owning or buying a boa in NY, LOL. Good luck
