Midnight blizzards?

deuce02 Nov 19, 2004 05:20 PM

Went by the local shop today. Saw these girls. First thing i thought was perhaps midnight blizzards? I landed up getting the 3 they had, all females, all of them are really dark in color. What do you think?

Keep them carefully quarantined and take them to the vet. The dark color appears to be the result of stress and being unhealthy. Blizzards the best hunters, best eaters, and natural survivors of all the leopard geckos. It usually takes something serious to get them down to such poor condition.

thats why i asked. These are my first blizzards. I tend to usually stay with the SHTCT-SHT and albinos. I got them dirt cheap so either way they were a steal.
thanks a ton

I'm kind of skeptical of the whole midnight blizzard morph. In my experience blizzard color depends on things like substrate color and mood in addition to health. I keep my blizzards on a dark substrate so they are typically dark in color, but when they get excited or if I move them to a light substrate, they lighten.

Your new guys look a bit thin, so I'd take Xelda's recomendation and quarentine them. If they have runny poo, poor appetites, or don't start gaining weight within the first week of proper feeding, get them to a vet.

Here's a pair of my blizzards right after I took them out.

Here's the same pair just a couple of minutes later. You can see how much lighter the male is already. This change is purely due to mood. The female shown with him will also lighten up, but she felt "dark" all through the photo shoot.

Hopefully your guys start packing on the grams,
Alice

I checked in on them this morning and they have all gotten much lighter. As you can see by the pics. They were that color when i got them and stayed that way until this morning. I was unaware they changed colors that drastically! These are my experience with blizzards, but i am in no way new to leos. They have all eaten, pooped and look like they will be fine now. I will keep my eye on them for the next week but i think they will be ok. thanks for the info.

They are pretty cool looking Leos! Im wondering though if maybe they aren't a dark patternless. I have a patty that looks real similar to the first one you posted today, only difference is mine has carrot tail coming in with each shed. I have only had him maybe 6 weeks or so but he looks real similar. My girls found him at petco, so I really wasn't told anything about him. Any thoughts?

Heres a pic of my patty from about a month or so ago. I thought maybe I saw some pattern on the head /neck area of yours. Maybe I am just seeing things. This was right after a shed, he doesn't show quite as much pattern today.

geckobill2112 Nov 20, 2004 07:10 PM

fun
I thought the same when I saw the close up of the first pucture. It definately has some pattern behind its head. Still nice looking leo though.
Good Luck
Bill

To tell you the truth, the more the one lightens up, i think im starting to see a partern as well! neither of the other two are showing it, just the one. I have no idea what to think now.

From the latest pictures, I think they look like patternless too. Sometimes when leos are stressed and malnourished their colors will get washed out. Now that you've got them eating, they seem to be coloring up. Some blizzards and patternless can be tough to tell apart once they get past the juvi stage. But, it does look like they've got something of a pattern. It'll be interesting to see if they continue to color up as they get healthier.

Good luck, and keep us posted!
Alice

BTW Patternless do change color just like blizzards. I've got one that goes from brown to lemon yellow.

Just wondering how these guys/ girls were doing?
Robin

deuce02 Nov 28, 2004 11:52 AM

they are all eating, slowly putting on weight and all of them are lightening up. One still shows signs of a pattern but the other two look more like blizzards to me. I will have pics later this week
thanks
