Very Large Enclosure Heating?

Dubhead23 Nov 19, 2004 11:27 PM

Here's the deal... I have an enclosure that I'm building that's 6' wide x 2' deep x 4' tall and I just bought a 250 watt Ceramic heat bulb and I already have a smaller 80watt one too. I think this should be ebough to warm the cage to 85F durring the day since my Apartment stays 78 to 80F all teh time. BTW this enclosure is for 2 Argentine Boas the female is 7' 2" and the male is about 6' long and will be here on Tuesday.

This is going to be a vivitarium with live plants and a fountain with a couple branches across higher up.

Here's a picture of the enclosure as it tis right now:

Here's the Female:

And here's the male:

Thanks!!!

If it was my decision, i would use 2 100 watt ceramic heat emitters. just one of that size will be very hot over a small area, if your snake basks under said area there is a chance for burns. also, being rather large snakes they will recieve uneven heat across their bodies. Spread out the heating surface to provide them with a more even heating area. Further more, a viv. with natural plants is pleasing to the eye, but boas of that size will destroy those plants in no time flat. generaly speaking the light source in an average viv. is not strong enough to support adequete plant growth. Go with silk plants, they always look good and they have the advantage of being washed on occasion. I would also provide them with shelves, put an under tank heater ontop of the shelf and lay some indoor outdoor carpeting on this as well. Your going to have 2 snakes in there so give them multiple options of heating themselves. Otherwise the dominant argi. will choose the best spot leaving the other one seeking another area. Clint
