"Fred Burton, Blue Iguana Recovery Program Director, has rescheduled the Salina release for December 2004, likely rolling over into the first two weeks of January 2005. Funding for the release remains secure. The only release equipment lost during the hurricane was the PIT tag reader, which has already been replaced through relief donations. Fred is making the call for a small number of qualified volunteers to assist with the release though the exact dates in December have not been set. The Salina Reserve is extremely rugged and harsh, loaded with Maiden Plum, cactus, knife-edged karst rock with crevices and solution holes, and thick dry forest with a canopy that dampens most air circulation. "
