1st time breeding-Take photos or DO NOT DISTURB?

verbal Nov 20, 2004 04:18 PM

This is the first time my two virgins are copulating. I'm a first time breeder too. She's a 5 foot monster and he's a shy 1300 gram'er. I put them together yesterday and tonight their going at it. The thing is I'm a photographer and I want to take some shots. Would it be best to leave them alone? Their in a 20 long(she was too big for my tubs) with some paper towels over them.....Should I pull it off and shoot away?

most of my ball pythons are accustomed to movements of their bins and such. If I can take a shot without disturbing them AND I think that they won't get "squirrelly" then I'll take the shot. However if one or both of the snakes tends to be skittish then don't do it. You don't want a female to pull away and have the male's hemipene damaged.
If this breeding is important to you or if you are worried about breaking up the copulation, then wait until the next time they are locked up to take the shot. Thay way you know they already have at least one successful copulation.
