Snake not eating

joshmancini Nov 21, 2004 01:55 AM

My ball python will not eat. He usually eats every week but it has been more than two weeks and he isnt interested in eating. I dont think that he is going through a shed cycle because he is still very active and his eyes arent glossy I have tried feeding him in a seperate container but he doesnt seem interested in the mouse. Does anyone have any advice.

Thanks,
Josh

could be change in weather as i have been told it doesnt matter how warm u keep your room with your snake, it still knows the fluxuation in temperature outside and the weather change from fall to winter then winter to spring and so on just give him some time it sounds like he is healthy and u probably have nothing to worry about

You've read the care sheets about how they tend to go off feed, right?

like they are saying above, their systems are telling them ' it is time to hibernate, getting cold out side, take a break ' it has been telling them this for thousands and thousands of years. i have some that quit for several months then i have GD - garbage disposal - she will eat anything any time !! if they are hungry they will eat. dont worry about it - unless they are new born or pretty young and have not experience many meals. but if they have been eating for a while, then they know what they are doing.

I second everything else that has been said here. Mine has eaten for over 3 weeks now and he did the same thing last year starting around this time. During the spring, summer, and most of fall he's a pig, but once it starts to get close to winter he shuts his appetite down for a while. Just keep trying every week and if he doesn't take the mouse, then try again the following week. Make sure he has plenty of water at all times and watch the humidity. I notice mine tends to drink a little more this time of year, probably due to the drier air associated with winter and not eating as much.
