Jeff Clarke, you may owe me a beer! -more-

southernboids Nov 21, 2004 08:19 AM

A few weeks ago I posted on how best to ship a huge boa.. approx. 8 foot in length and 40 pounds. Well.. Jeff replied he would bet a beer I was over estimating on her size. Well.. to be honest I had not weighed her so I left it alone and thought Maybe I OWE JEFF A BEER??

Well I shipped her off and the total package weiged 47 1/2 pounds! So I figure minus 7 pounds for the container and she weighs in at 40 pounds plus she has not eaten in 6 weeks!

A BIG GIRL SHE IS@!

See you at the bar!

I remember that.. I was going to say something but left it alone..

I have a 7 foot stripe albino that weighs in at an even 40 pounds... I bought her from Peter Kahl a while back. That is why i never questioned that yours was "x" pounds at "x" size

Genaroleon,
....I just weighed and measured my male Suri. 6 feet 9 inches long and 14 pounds 2 ounces. He is an impressively healthy snake. Female Bci will normally be heavier than male Bcc but if you get an accurate weight and length for yours you may be surprised.

so my cost has always been the same, 71 and some change. This was by far the biggest I have shipped so I was a little worried they would charge me more.

They do have a new rule about they actually want anyone to remove the animal from the bag so they can check it, the bag and the animal I guess..

I was the first to come through with an anmial to test this new rule on. I asked the guy if he was serious as I have never had to do this before, I am a known shipper and SHE IS BIG! He said he really needed to enforce this, especially since I was the first. I said "Well ok.. if you must"

I pulled the huge bag out of the cooler on WHEELS I had to send her in, and you could see her nosing around the inside of the bag. They all stepped back... I set the bag on the top of the now closed cooler.. and she was getting restless. I had her in a material bag with a zipper. It was brand new and I got it with my leaf blower for when I wanted to suck up leaves, so it was a good size bag. Other then my wife had to sew a hole shut where the blower attaches.. anyway, im getting off topic.

So I set the bag down, they all step back. I unzip the bag.. a HUGE HEAD comes racing out.. They now run into the wall behind them as I grab her and attempt to get her to calm down. Did I mention that not only is she a big girl, but she has a HUGE HEAD? Granted I know she is only anxious to see what is going on, but she is a bit on the scary side as she lunges out of the bag.

I was the first in line and the first to be EXEMPT from the actual removal of the animal. I got her head back in the bag, zipped her up and repacked her in her cooler.

Shawn,
...I remember the post but I cannot find it. I think there was more to the bet than just the weight of the snake. I think it was a bet about the lenght and the weight that you posted for the snake. Anyway, I know that Boa Constrictors can weigh 40 pounds but most of them are beyond 8 feet in length when they weigh 40 pounds. I am still betting that if your snake weighed 40 pounds it was more than 8 feet long. Did you measure the snake? I know they are tough to measure when they get big but I have measured and weighed a bunch of big Boas and Pythons and people often overestimate the weight and underestimate the length of big stout boids. I will be glad to buy you a beer anytime you come to Savannah. Good luck with the breeding this coming year.
