Rep Cal tortoise food

TinaTurtle Nov 21, 2004 08:33 AM

Hi all,

I have a Greek tortoise (juvenile) and a brand new tiny baby Hermann's. Of course they live in separate enclosures.

I went to my local pet supply store looking for Mazuri tortoise diet. I've never bought it before but I many of you recommended it to feed once in a while.

All the store had was something called Rep Cal tortoise food. It was a big jar with something that looked like miniature fruity pebbles cereal. Is this any good? Is this similar as the Mazuri?

It is similar to the mazuri tortoise diet but I don't like the addition of food coloring.

Have you tried checking out Petsmart. They carry Mazuri.

you should try the local "mom & pop" pet store (even dog and cat groomers!) to see if they can order it direct for you, many folks got them that way (personal service, too!) and a 25 lbs goes for just under 25 bucks...just don't overdose your torts whatever you do...

Also--Mazuri has a web site that you can order from them directly. I don't remember the address for it but I am sure Ed or somebody on this forum has it or you can do a google search. I remember that they made food for all kinds of zoo animals from kangaroos to polar bears (well, maybe not polar bears). Good luck.

I will search Google. Thanks for the info and Happy Thanksgiving!

about the rep-cal pellets...I have a 5 year old sulcata who loves them and at 20 pounds he seems to do well on these (with his other veggies of course) but of course can be pricy for a guy his size. Great for special occasions in his size range.

My torts are small, one Greek juvenile -Toto- and a baby Hermanns -Tina- and like you said I'm thinking to feed it once in a while. The pellets seem to be still big for baby Tina but okay for Toto.

There are a few things you can do. Moisten a single piece and feed part of it. Crush it up and feed part of it.

What I do is moisten it and put it in a feeding syringe and extrude my own small pellets. The remainder can be placed in the fridge for later use.
