A million times......

MistaMasta Nov 21, 2004 08:47 AM

I'm sure this has been asked a million times....but could everyone post pix of their ball set-ups as far as enclosures. I have two Uromastyx and someone offered me two ball pythons b/c his roomate wasn't taking care of them, no heat lamps, no hides, as a matter of fact the big one (4.5ft) only had a brick and a water bowl, and the little one(2.5ft) had nothing in it's enclosure. Both enclosures had mold and bugs in the substrate and they were being "stored" in the garage. NEways sorry for the rambling I have the necesseties in there now just trying to get creative like I do for my Uro's.
Thanx in advance, I'll post pix soon.

I bought the furniture for $10 at a garage sale. W/ the tupperware and some plywood. It cost about $75 total and it houses 8 snakes. Plus the two short 15 gallon aquariums on top which were $15 each. I have heat wire keeping them all warm ($20) So all together about $125 for 10 ankes. You can't beat that.

I bought this from Jason's Jungles at the indianpolis Show. This is definately worth the money (think it was $225 or $250) It comes all ready for you with heat tape. It keeps humidity in and comes with the tupperware. This is what I recomment. Plus Jason is a great guy. I had the pleasure in meeting him and talking to him when I purchased it. Great guy and very knowledgable. Good luck with your rescues.

Jason Hess is a great guy and has very affordable, nice quality racks.
Good luck,

The only difference is that I've got air holes in my Sterilites (10x5x10x5) and printed sticky labels identifying each snake.

Gotta Love Those Jason's Jungle Racks,
Chris

First, please please take those ball pythons from your friend's ignorant & negligent roommate. Those balls need some TLC and I promise you they will be well worth it.

Here are some pics of a few of my racks that I've made from melamine. They worked perfectly, are easy to build and take up very little space. The only down thing is their weight but to me that's really not an issue. Let me know if you have any questions. Hope that helps some.

What size tubs are you using in the big rack. How do you heat the big rack as well. They look great. Here is a pic of my 20 tub rack. The melamine was giving to me so I just put legs on it.

Thanks. In the big rack those are 41 qt. tubs. In the hatchling/sub-adult rack there are 6 qt. tubs and 28 qt. tubs. I used 11-inch heat tape in the large racks along the back. It allows a heat gradient from 93+ in the back and 78-82 in the front. In the combo rack, I used 6 vertical columns of 3 inch heat tape and it works perfectly as well. I plan on building more racks sometime in the near future. Let me know if you have any more questions.

I dont have any photos, but I'm assuming that you're looking for asthetics and not really for racks... personally, i think a hot glue gun and some slate rock makes for some pretty appealing hide spots - hot glue gun just to insure the rocks dont crash down on the poor snake, one in the lamp and one on the cold end. strong climbing sticks are a must, since even if they dont go high, snakes look pretty nice wound around a natural stick on hte floor. I perfer to use ones from my own trees (and since the hurricane i have no shortage of branches!) since they tend ot have weird colour patches, just make sure to sanitize w/ bleach water or bake. Helps play down the rodenty look of the aspen on hte floor too... flat slate around the water bowl makes it look more natural if you use a people-bowl. i love to put some spanish moss in my enclosures too, but i can also pick the stuff off of trees and not pay 10 bucks for a tiny little bag!

Thanks for all of the replies and pix, I am kinda looking for pet type of enclosures not really racks, more like display. I've got all the necessities in there like a hide, water bowl, branches granite tiles and a burrowing cellulose substrate. Just looking for a creative habitat vice like storage. These are real quick pix, kinda messy things have been hectic with two new pets.

few more, the smaller snake's enclosure.....btw the big one is now Michael and the small one is Gabriel.....

Congratulations on your new arrivals! I agree with you...I keep my 3 snakes in display type set-ups rather than racks. Of course, I only have 3 (so far!) and I'm not breeding them, and I enjoy giving them the most naturalistic habitat I can. I use aspen bedding, silk plants, and rock-looking plastic hides (all easy to clean). As Deviledapper says, real rocks (hot glued for safety) and wood look nice, too. Speaking of safety, one suggestion - take the bricks off the top of the hides. Balls are strong and tend to re-arrange things, if the brick fell on your snake's back it could cause injury. you're on the right track!
