New to snakes

alex_baskeyfield Nov 21, 2004 08:49 AM

I have just bought a baby corn snake (he's about 12 inches long). I've had him for about 2 weeks now and he's eating fine but he spends nearly all of his time hidden under the wood chippings at the bottom of his tank. Is this normal behavior for a corn snake or are they usually more active?

Also, as he's 12 inches long, how old could he be?

Thanks,

Alex

I would guess hes only a few months old. Thats about how long they are at hatching. It is very normal for them to stay hidden, especially after feeding. If you check on them shortly after the lights go out you will probably see more activity.

it's normal. babies like to hide. you will see in time and as he/she gets bigger it'll come out more often. mine really like paper towel rolls to hide in.

You need to get the Corn Snake Manual by Kathy Love. A link to her site is at the top of the forum. Everything you need to know about your snake is in there.
It is very normal for your corn to hide.
Enjoy.

Corns are usually active at dawn and dusk, so if you want to catch him out and about, it'll be early morning or in the evening. As he gets older and more confident, he might start to come out and "hunt" during the day if he gets hungry.
