What route to get larger habitat for 2 zebra tailed lizards?

Esther Nov 21, 2004 11:35 AM

I just got 2 zebra tailed lizards, which is a very lively although small species. They need more room to run than the 20 long tank they're in.

The available shelf for their habitat is an IKEA Gorm unit, like this one (this is not my unit, it's the IKEA website photo):

I have joined 2 Gorm units together, and this causes the center leg to get in the way of maybe sliding a larger tank in there. First, I wonder if I can saw away the section of that leg which blocks the bottom shelf without the whole unit crashing down (it holds a 20 long reptile tank on the shelf above and parakeet cages on the top shelf).

The bottom shelf 19" wide and about 48" long, with 19" height clearance. Is there a commercially made breeder tank which would give these guys enough room to run, or must I build a tank (like 40" long x 18" wide x 14" high) of 1/4" glass?

Any help here will be VERY APPRECIATED. These guys are sooo interesting to keep and I want them to thrive.

This is just like my unit. Ths "offending" leg is the section of the middle leg on the bottom in the front. Could the middle of that, flush with the lower shelf level and below the support for the middle shelf, be sawed away to allow a larger tank to be slid in?
My shelving unit.

you might have to reinforce the second self if you were to cut away the leg under it..
also would probobly depend on how heavy the stuff on the shelf unit itself was.

I have this shelf and ran into the same problem.

Removing the center leg causes the shelf to lean forward for some reason, also once the tank was in I couldn't fit in the heat lamps.

If your not opposed to leaving the leg there you can slide the
tank in from the side of the shelf rather then the front. You could also remove the leg if you bolt it to the wall and don't put anything with weight on the higher sheves.
