What age are you going to purchase? For neos use paper towels. They are easy to clean, hold humidity, and it's easy to spot when the snake defecates. Yearlings can be kept on paper towels or cypress mulch. I keep adults and larger yearlings on mulch with live plants. Pothos and philodendrums thrive in the same conditions with chondros, so they make a great choice.
As far as cage material, I use melamine. You must make sure all seams are sealed completly. If not, the cage will swell and be useless in no time. Other commercial cage make great choices, but I make my own cages due to the cost. I can build 3-4 cages for what most individual commercial cages cost. Just make sure it is resistant to humidity and moisture.
One other option is plastic storage bins. These are almost perfect if you can find the right size. They hold humidity great and can be heated easily with heat tape or panels. IMO this is the only way to house babies and yearlings. Good luck.

Hello! I know I am not one of the "professionals" who have been doing this for a long time, or a breeder, who has had a lot of experience ... but I have my GTP, Jaya, in a very natural setting sort of cage. He is about a year old, and he loves this set-up!! The substrate is mulch, and the plants are real. I do misting a couple of times a day, and watch the gauges for consistent humidity and temps. I know there seems to be some controversy about using a set-up like this for babies, but my 6-month-old Sorong is in one similar, just smaller, and he is thriving!!!! So, I don't think there are absolutes ... but if someone has success with something, it's good to share info!! It's the nice thing about this site
