Baby Leopard Gecko Info Please

chibicricket Nov 21, 2004 02:35 PM

I just recently bought a baby leopard gecko. I have raised a very healthly, 6ft, 20lb el salvador blue iguana since he was a baby (now he's 13), so I'm fairly experienced with reptiles. (And iguanas aren't the easiest herps to raise!) I read a lot about my gecko before buying him/her, but I was wondering about one thing. His coloring. Right now he looks like a jungle ? phase gecko, but has orange arms and legs. He's only about an inch long, and I was wondering if his coloring is going to change as he grows. On almost all the dealer sites I've looked on, their baby geckos all look like mine, with the exception of the albino or patternless kind. Right now he has a black and white striped tail, hourglass shaped blobs of brown on his back, and a white and black head with a white stripe on the back of his head. I just got him on Wednesday, so pictures are in the works.
My iguana's coloring changed quite a bit as he grew, and I'm thinking so will the gecko's. But I'm wondering how much?

Thanks for your info!
Chibi

An inch not counting the tail right? I watched my girlfriends hatch and out of the egg they were at least twice that. Anyway, I also watched her first leo go from a common looking baby as yours sounds to a hypo carrot tail. So I guess there's no telling really unless you saw the parents. And even then it seems like it can be pot luck. But I know I've watched the colors change.

After he shed a few times, he seems to be getting a lot more orange on his arms and his neck. I was getting confused at first, because some other lady actually e-mailed me telling me that leopard geckos do not change colors at all.
