Question on beauty snakes

aokage100 Nov 21, 2004 02:36 PM

Hi, I have a blue beauty who is almost 4 feet right now. I want to get a Taiwan beauty but the one I am looking at has just hatched. I wanted to know if the two subspecies can live together in one tank, of course after they grow to be relatively the same size. If they can eventually live in the same tank, what should I do with the baby Taiwan in the mean time? Is it necessary to get a new tank for it as well, or is there a more economic way of raising it. Also, is there anyway to make the Taiwan grow at a faster rate, such as feeding it more often? If so, how often, and what's the growth rate? Thanks for all the help!

ok this question is somewhat different on housing so ill answer it in detail.

don't put them together. period.

next!

nah...if u put them together the blue will eat the taiwan hatchling. those type of snakes i would never house together, even moreso than any other...but thats just due to their temperment.

if you're going to get a taiwan house it seperately. seeing as how these snakes grow upwards of nearly 10 feet...and have two totaly different personalities....they have different housing requirements....really basically the same but a taiwan is going to want to climb a lot more than a blue will.

you could even get an aboreal cage for your taiwan...tall with a small base size - they love to climb!

The beauty snakes have an extremly high metabolism. I would NOT reccomend to power feed any snake...but if you feed your beauty snake a good size meal every 4-5 days it will be at 5 feet within a year.

Ok, thanks alot for your help. Also thanks for giving advice on feeding as well because I have been wondering how often to feed my blue beauty, she seems to want to eat really often. I am really excited about getting the Taiwan! Thanks again!

you mention trying to save money...before you go getting that taiwan make sure you will have the resources needed for it as it grows...feedin a 10 foot snake can get expensive. Pinkies, fuzzies, hoppers, etc... are cheap now..but when it gets to the point wehre its eating full grown rats then it's not going to be very cheap! esp. for 2 of 'em lol.
then think about their housing requirements...

That is true, I have already given the housing and feeding considerations. I'm stil not sure, right now I am leaning towards a ridleyi. Are there anything that I should consider before buying one?
