Humid Hide for Redfoot

Gpoop Nov 21, 2004 03:47 PM

HI, I'm setting up a tortosie table for a redfoot and not sure where I should put a humid hide. I know they need one but what part of the enclosure should it be?Thanks

It seems that lots of people put it in the cool end.
I always felt, that the tortoise should not be forced to stay at one specific temperature, when it wants to rest and feel secure.
That's why I put three humid hides in my enclosures: one in the cool end, one in the hot end and one in the middle (and all of them are very frequented!).
The hides are made of clay flower pots cut in half and filled with spaghnum moss, and all my redfoots love them!

Hope that helps,
Gaby

May I ask which part of my response you second?
Do you feel, that they shouldn't have the choice to thermoregulate AND feel secure, which is something the hiding places usually provide?

Sorry,- I just thought you meant, that you second guess my advice, but realize, that you simply second it.
Sometimes one reads too fast...

Sorry again,
