Price of Albino Emorys

kingofspades Nov 21, 2004 06:30 PM

Is it ever going to drop? I would love one, but $300 is kinda steep for me in my current position.

Maybe I'll just have to wait a while. Breed what i have now and sell the babies for one haha.

$300 is way high. I'm just going to breed an albino corn with my favorite Emory's, and work on creamsicles. I think they're prettier anyway, lots cheaper, and I can use locality snakes.

$300 is a lot lower than they were 2 or 3 years ago. When Don Soderberg was the only person who had them they were $500 each. Its all about supply and demand, when the demand meets supply the price will drop.

If albino emoryi are $300 each, you would expect hets to cost approximately $150 each, correct? Unable to find a current price of either albinos or hets when mine were ready to sell several months ago, I offered the hets at $80 each. I have even dropped the price to considerably less at times in an attempt to stir up some interest. Still no luck. I wasn't trying to undercut the current market (I didn't know what the current market price was until I saw this post), but was simply trying to move a couple pairs quickly.

Has the interest in this morph dwindled? Does no one want to work with hets anymore? Do people assume something must be wrong with hatchlings that are too cheap? Or is it just a tough market this year?

Ronda,
I think the albino emory's are just gorgeous and I would love to have a pair of hets (since they are more affordable than the albinos) but I have gotten into corns so much this year that I simply don't have the room for another type of snake (at least, I keep telling myself that!) A lot of people have trouble with the fickleness of any pet "market" - you never know what people are going to be begging for more of or which ones will be casually overlooked (and I am sure you know this as a breeder.)

Is the market for emory's in general holding steady? Maybe people, at this time, just don't want to pay more for a normal looking snake? Maybe this year is a buyers market? I know that I have gotten some great deals on snakes this year, and I assume that is because the seller was not being bombarded by buyers. Most of the snakes that I bought this year are from highly reputable breeders (a few breeders I know nothing of their reputation, but the snakes are still top notch and appeared well cared for) so the lower price was not for lack of quality (though you may be right, if the price seems way too cheap then it may put doubt in a buyers mind.)

It could also be where you are advertising, maybe there are less people checking those ads in favor of a newer website or magazine? Maybe their computers are wearing out and fewer people can afford to replace them! (Mine is quickly going downhill, hubby and I will be looking at a new computer tomorrow, on credit of course!)

good luck with finding homes for your snakes (if I decide to get a pair of emorys het albino next year then I will keep you in mind - I bought 3 snakes from you this year and I am very pleased with them.)

Hi, Ronda.

I'm not really on top of this market, or anything, but do have a couple of opinions, besides the ones I've already made. For one, I don't think this snake has been talked about, at least recently, on this forum. I would like to see more interest in the Great Plains ratsnakes, in general. I think the interest in the Emory's race is pretty low, at least compared to some of the others. Also, I think folks probably like the albino corn more than the albino Emory's, and the price probably puts them off. All conjectures, of course. I wish I had known about your great deal on the hets earlier this year. Do you still have any? Any pics? Thanks for the post.

I think that was the price at the Anaheim show as well.

I guess I got lucky. I saw an ad here at kingsnakes.com from a guy who had 2 ads one was for 2.2 amel and snow motley corns and the other was for an albino female emory and 1.1 hets. I responded to the one for the corns and said I was possibly interested in the Emorys. I got a reply within a few hours that I could have the whole group for under $300 shipped. I said ok and then got worried when I found out the price of what just the albino Emory normally should be. But they arrived and are beautiful and doing great. I guess I was at the right place at the right time for that deal. Just keep you eyes open and you will find a great deal too!!!
