Breeding Season Question

bast Nov 21, 2004 07:03 PM

Hey All,

Once they reach breeding age do bearded dragons breed year round. I have a pair that just produced their first clutch. 25 eggs. I sepparated the female for about three weeks. I put her back in the big cage with the male so she could have more room (4 foot Neodesha). Well he is on her already. Will he chill out or must they stay sepparated until she recovers and I want another clutch?

Thank you,

Brian

Well your in for it now buddy! LOL...... Once they begin to lay eggs.... it doesn't stop untill they say so....no matter if you remove the male or not. She will retain sperm and lay fertile clutches untill her body says stop. As far as them being together... she should be romoved from the malews cage permanently.... for good..... he will stress her out and possibly hurt her or make her sick from the stress if you don't ...she needs a stress free enviornment during this period. Since she will be laying the eggs anyway I would give her a week and put her back in with the male after each clutch for half a day or so just to make sure they are fertile. It will be easier for her to lay fertile eggs from what I understand. If you don't want to incubate the eggs and have a bunch of babies on your hands you can't take care of or don't want to have to find good homes for.... the best thing to do would be to freeze the eggs and discard them after she lays.

Robert
