This is another easy one for the alterna at heart. I will get some Ft. Davis on soon. They are all still on slides from back in the old days.

just curious...what is the best time of yr to herp there...what time of yr do the flowers boom there? thanks
why it's the rock of prudental insurance company logo. LOL !
And we all know that no insurance covers this!
Like most places, it depends on the weather. However, for alterna, May, June and July are the best. If I could only go once in a year it would be June. As far as blooming, April and May for most of the cacti but things tend to bloom after a rain in the desert. Any time you go to the Big Bend area you will find something that will make you come back.
Enjoy it.

thanks, my wife is a butterfly specialist so I would have to go when they are at a peak.....
as far as snakes in general there, are most found cruising the roads at night or flipping rocks etc? thanks again
Sorry to say that the butterflies are nearly as rare as the alterna. But then that is what makes it such a draw for herpers. The things you can't find just anywhere! As for the reptiles, road cruising or walking the cuts with a light at night is your best bet. There is no gamble like guessing which rock in the desert has a snake under it. If you go, you will see.

That would be Willow Mnt. Just south of wild horse.
And you get the second cigar.
