I just saw a musk turtle at a pet shop and was wondering what is there care and where can I find a good caresheet on their care?
I was told this turtle grows to 4-12"? The baby is still small so I was thinking of using a 10g tank and then upgrading to a 20g long and upgrade again to 40-60g tank. How warm do they like their water? (I have extra heaters from fish tanks I am not using.) How warm do they like their basking spot? (I have an extra ceramic heater.) Do they need UV lighting or any particular lighting requirements? Can they just eat guppies, worms (mealworms and earthworms), and turtle pellets or is there something else I should be feeding? Can more than one live together or are they solitary?
I want to make sure they are something I can take proper care of before getting one or two.
So far I can make a 10g tank with a few inches of water. (I also have a 20g long tank for a reptile, but it has a hole on the bottom which I would have to either seal up or use a piece of glass to make part of the cage land and the non-hole area water.) I have the water heater and a heat lamp already. I would have to get them a ramp or make a partical land area for the basking though and a small filter to deal with such a low level of water. I have light fixtures, but will need bulbs for it. I am thinking some live plants would be nice so the bulbs I need for that at least, but not sure on special UV light needed.
Any guides or caresheet sites would be very helpful. Thanks.
