hi everyone,

i also got a new beardie yesterday (Cookie Monster) at 3:00pm. he's really active, VERY alert, and likes to be held, but i took advice from previous messages in this forum and left him in the cage to get used to the place. he did walk around for a while and sat in his water bowl - but then he just kept basking for hours straight without moving. even when i put 2 crickets (to see if he'd eat, i dont want them 2 stress him out if there's more) and salad in there around 6:00pm (collard greens, a couple repcal pellets, & 1 cut up raspberry) he didn't eat. he climbed up my arm so i let him walk around for a little but i placed him back near the salad bowl. he just crawled on it and fell asleep with his crickets running around on the opposite side after having their share of the salad during his basking.

i e-mailed the breeder and she said he's just missing his brothers, sisters, and buddies - so to just keep handling him a little bit because he needs to be socialized. also to keep the temps right and him hydrated so he can digest.

should i handle him for a little bit and hand feed him? coz he's still sleeping right now (i'm about 2 turn the lights on in a few minutes) - and the crickets are still there on his basking branch. i'm worried about the lil guy he's my buddy!

i put water droplets on his face and some against the glass that he was facing. he did lap up what was on his face and some that were on the wall, so i put more until he stopped licking.

he was still alert and looking at me, then when i went to pull clothes from my closet - i found him at the top of the driftwood and is basking with his eyes closed. the same 2 crickets are still there drinking his water and eating the edges of his salad while trying to get the calcium powder off.

is it normal that they bask all day? should his eyes be closed? he's NOT gaping or anything, he's just hanging out. i think i'm more worried about that than him not eating since i was told that that's somewhat normal for them. thanx every1, sorry 4 my paranoia

Mine didnt eat much at all for a week after I got him. Once he got settled and used to everything around him, he started eating crickets and salad nonstop. Im sure yours will do the same. Maybe order a small quantitty of tiny silkworms. I sometimes use them to jump start my guy's feeding, he loves them.

thanks! that made me feel better because it's been 2.5 days and he has yet to eat anything. i added 2 crix again last night assuming he ate the other 2 i put in there the day before, but they ended up crawling out from under the paper towel- lol.

thanks for the info on silkworms. i'm going to the pet store today to buy small ones for this week in a tiny bowl next to his salad.

i cant wait til he gets used to the place coz he has me so nervous - i love the lil guy thank you for the info! it helped calm me down a bit. i'll post again when his eating habits improved & to post some pictures!
