Missing Leo...

jjay Jul 01, 2003 07:35 AM

Hey all,

Any of you make a stupid mistake like I just did. I was feeding my son's juvi male a couple days ago, got sidetracked and forgot to close the cage. I went in to feed him last night and he is gone.

I have seen on this forum where people have looked for their missing leo for a month and one up to 5 months before finding them. I was wondering if anyone has had success catching them and what did you do?

My idea is to put out a humid hide with a heat lamp shining on it to see of he will find it and crawl in. Do you think this might work? Do you have any other suggestions?

Any help is much appreciated!!!!

JJay

P.S. My wife hates snakes and thinks a lizzard is a snake with leggs. She doesn't know yet about the escapee! I'd really like to catch him before I have to tell her he is missing. ">

Mine went missing for awhile and I took the whole room apart. And she ended up running across the floor infront of me one time.

Best practice is to keep doors shut to every room and search room by room.

My girlfriend also hates Lizards and was going to go live with her mother untill I found it.

LMAO!!

Another suggestion...Put a heating pad in the middle of the room and turn it on. Then, go look in the middle of the night or wee hours of the morning to see if your leo wanted to get warm.

The cricket thing worked for me. I just happened to pick up my monthly supply (500). and that night (early morning) I found my lost Gecko right next to my crickets wanting some. Be sure you use old enough ones that make lots of noise.

I did the same thing just the day before yesterday. The same lizard that escaped last year and took me about 4 weeks to find. This time, I went the room shortly after turned the lights out and turned the lights back on. She was out looking around and probably hungry. I had looked the day before but no luck. My guess is that he/she will be hungry soon and will start looking around. I like the hide box, but probably a few mealies and a bit of darkness would do the trick.
Good Luck

You could try that. Also try adding a jar of full grown crix next to it, they may be attracted to the noise, But best advice I can give is to look LATE at night---12 am 1 am 2 am 3 am...that's when you will find them, as they come out then!

He's probably going to be looking for some heat and there is lots of heat/hiding under stoves, behind the fridge etc.

I hope you find it!

Try putting some adult crickets in a container (with air holes in the lid) and place the container on the floor near the cage. The chirping may draw the leo out of hiding...also put a shallow dish of mealworms out too and wait for him to come along. Good luck!!!
