where to get a ridleyi?

aokage100 Nov 22, 2004 02:02 PM

Hi, I was wondering who would be good to contact if I was interested in getting an Elaphe taeniura ridleyi. I don't know anything about their availibility or costs. Can some one please inform me. What types of variations are there and how much do these snakes generally cost? What's the price range? Thanks for your help!

Check the Corn Snake/Rat Snake classifieds, I've seen them listed recently. That should give you an idea of price ranges and breeders. Don't know what reptile shows are in your area, but that's also an option. No guarantees that they'll be available at the show, but the last show I attended locally had a few.

I agree try the corn snake/ratsnake classifieds also try the "other snakes" classifieds I have seen them listed in both places. As far as price is concerned I have seen them for as high as $225 shipping(on a breeder's website) to as low as $130 shipped(current ad). I am wanting to get a pair, along with a dozen other thing, myself so I have been keeping an eye on the market. Good luck with your search.

Yeah, I also saw that classified ad about males ridleyi but I just checked it and it's not there anymore, does that mean that the person already sold them? That deal also seemed to be the cheapest. I guess I'll have to keep checking........Oh yeah, another question do ridleyi come in different colors? Because I saw ones that are more yellow and orange while others are green, brown. Do the color difference affect the price?

Be aware that some people list them under their common names- Cave Rat Snake, Cave Dwelling Rat snake, or Cavers. From what I've seen, the stripe coloration can reflect different localities. If the origin of the parent stock is known, I prefer to try to match those traits in a breeding pair and would spend more to do so. Willingness to feed, size, sex, age, numbers of available animals in the market, and temperament can all affect pricing. Typically single males are less expensive than females.
Usually when an ad is pulled, the snakes are sold. You can always contact the breeder and see if they will put you on the list for next year's offspring if they have something you really want.
