I was wondering what the thought was behind not using real names when posting. I can understand it if someone who occasionally posts would not want to give out their full name or contact info. There are a few head cases out there. Why would someone not want to post their first name (at the very least ) though? I find it very difficult to give out any sort of in depth info for any amount of time to somebody whoes first name is a mystery.

I think many people simply forget to put an automatic signature first name to their posts. One could even invent a first name, simple initials or something that is used consistently as a signature so others could keep track of who is who. The posting names are often long, confusing and difficult to remember. It's nice to be able to recognize a simple name and is easier to relate it to past posts. I can't see that this would necessarily "endager" anyone's full identity if someone didn't want it known.
