I was intrigued the first time I saw this claim.
Then I looked closely at the picture.
Look at the point where the tongs contact the snake.
Is the skin compressed like it is supporting 89 pounds of snake from that one point?
No, of course not!
In fact, there is NO IMPRESSION AT ALL!
It looks to me as if the snake is stuffed and the picture is staged.
Just my own observations.

it's just a 4-5 foot snake being held outstreched towards the camera so as to give the deception of being huge. One can make a sidewinder look to be 4 ft. long using the same photographic angle.
I will eat my pants, piece by piece, if someone can show me IN PERSON a live 89 pound rattler of any species. In fact, I'll give $100 to the first person to produce evidence of ANY venomous snake reaching that mass.
