great news and a little sad news

maestrOwen Nov 22, 2004 03:26 PM

The great news is that I have been accepted to the school of architecture at Tulane University! woohoo go me!

The bad news is...I don't live in New Orleans so I'll have to stay in a dorm as a freshman which=leave my babies here in SC with my mom...

but I've got nine months to teach her all I know about the ways of the blood pythons and I'm soooo going to send her to you guys cos you rock!

happy about Tulane

sad about having to leave my snakes
As sad as it may seem to some people, I have an emotional attachment to my snakes *sighs* (but hey people form emotional attachments to dogs and cats so why not me and my snakes?) and I don't want to miss out while my kids growing up.

*sighs*

I hate it when your happy and sad at the same time....i had way to much of that going on last weekend.

Good thing you got 9 months...im not sure if my mom would be able to learn how to keep them in that little time.

I kept my snakes in my dorm even tho I wasn't supposed to. I got my bed lofted and put a big flag around then stuck them under there so you couldn't see them. It worked out great! You kinda have to sneak them in tho

Hey Owen,

See if you can just scope out the dorm situation...in particular your RA. If your roommate is cool and your RA is cool, you shouldn't have a problem. Just be smart about it....you'll probably find out that no one will actually have much of a problem with it.

I was lucky enough to go to a college where anything was allowed in the dorms as long as your pet wasn't a dog, cat or bird. Needless to say, my critters became quite the P.R. animals

Good luck at college, you're going to LOVE it!

Yeah I'm definitely going to check out the situation and hopefully, I'll be able to keep my snakes with me.

If it doesn't work out, I guess I'll leave them here for my mom to take care of during my absence....I was thinking about it today, and I'm probably going to miss my snakes more than I'll miss my family *sighs*

but hell yeah I'm excited about college! and New Orleans! and yeahyeahyeah!

thanks and later everyone-

Make sure you know what the consequences are though. Keeping that many big snakes hidden until you find out who your neighbors and your RA are could be tricky. I also kept a snake in college, and it was 25 dollars a day until you found a new home for the animal if you were turned in. I just had a little kenyan sand boa that I kept under my bed.

Also, make sure you know what you're going to do during holidays. Transporting reptiles isn't the easiest thing to do, and leaving them in your room isn't really an option because most colleges will do room searches during breaks. Usually its just a cursory look to make sure you aren't burning candles or using extension cords instead of power strips, but its something else to keep in mind.

Maybe you could just take one to maintain your sanity, and leave the rest with your mom....

Congratulations, Owen!
Same thing happened to me when I joined the Corps. My dad raisd 'em
and wound up falling in love with snakes. He was a few wonderul animals that blow my mind. He understands their psychology quite well. In fact, when I got back into the hobby, he taught me a few thing
