Hello
Could you please describe any (if at all) difference in behavior when your black trees began mating? My female has become much more active in the last few days. Thanks...
Robert

Hey There Robert,

One of the behaviors that I have whitnessed with both my blue trees and black trees was that the female would ovulate the week before copulation would start. At this time, the female would be very sluggish, suspending her abdomen in strange positions, hanging it off branches, etc.. After the swelling in the abdomen would retreat a bit, I would often see the pair spending a lot of time near one another, when they usually ignore eachother.

I can't really say that my females were more active prior to copulation, in fact, if anything, they appeared more sluggish... But I am sure that not all monitors behave the same way, however, many people here will agree that females hanging their bodies in wierd positions can be a sign that she is cycling..

It's good to hear that you are taking note of changes in behavior in your animals. After having a few of my animals mate and lay eggs, I have been able to pick up on some of their cues, as to when they are cycling, or getting ready to cycle, or lay eggs, etc.. So far, my animals have been pretty consistent in their behaviors leadingup to copulaton, as well as up to egg laying, but I am sure that this consistency won't remain the same...

Just what I've seen with my animals...hope this helps a bit, cheers,

bob
