Regurgitating

severa Nov 22, 2004 05:07 PM

I got 3 (really young, like 4 inches)corns at the end of october. I brought them home and set them up in identical cages. All with a heat pad. 85 degrees on the warm side. 2 of the 3 are regurgitating on the 2nd or third day. I wait at least a week before feeding again. The blood motley, ate a live pinky on saturday night. I found part of it today regurgitated. I know that some digestion had taken place but what I found was maybe a quarter of the pink. I guess the rest is in him still. I am completely beside myself on this. Their cages are identical. The snow is doing fine. My motley and amel are the ones regurgitating. This is the first time I have ever dealt with such small snakes. Any advice will be greatly....hugely, appreciated.

are you measuring the temps on the floor of the enclosure? even if your are, you could still reduce the temps a little. Are you sure they are 4 inches. probably closer to 12 inches, you just dont realize it. Id say lower the temps, wait a week and try again. If they still regurge, take them to the vet. Also, you can try a product called nutribac(sp). It helps regurgers. hope this helps.

I would also recommend nutribac and try the below steps to get these little corns back on track:

Hold of feeding for 15 days

The next time you feed take a thawed pink and cut in two pieces

offer one piece per corn and keep the corns separated while feeding

follow the above steps for a few months and treat every other feeding w/nutribac

Your little corns are just trying to tackle more than their guts can tolerate and thus regurge. In the mean time offer plenty of water and be sure to wait and feed them in two weeks time to allow the natural bacteria to build up in their gut.

Good luck,
Russ

Yes repzoo, you are right. They are around 10 - 12 inches. I have never been good at estimating size wise. I am going to get some nutribac and wait a while before attempting again. This time, I will cut a frozen pinky and feed each a half.

Its funny, as long as I have been keeping reps, it bothers me when I hit something this detrimental. I guess it just goes to show that even the experienced folks have it rough sometimes.
Its good to be in contact with other pros though!
Thanks again!
