LOST BEARDY!!! PLZZZZ HELP ME!

mr_president Nov 22, 2004 07:52 PM

hello
i let my beardy out of her tank today to let her have some exploring time, i tell my brother to make SURE that the door stays closed. what does he do? opens it and leaves 20 minutes later, after going back to the room i noticed the door was open, and after searching high and low and ripping the room apart i came to the conclusion she had escaped. Ive put down about 8 clear bottles with crix in em and flour around them. the one thing im worried about is the open stairs i have. she may have fallen down and thats what i dread, i looked around, and if she did fall, she must be okay because she is no were within 5meters of the stairs. any body have any more tips and tricks as to how to lure a BD out? how long can they go without food and water? shes about 4 months old and very healthy, i just fed her yesterday (sunday nov 21) about 20-30 crix. thanks for ALL your help!!!!!

it is unlikely she fell down the staires...what she probably did was cool off and decide to take a snooze...but before she fell asleep she decided to find a nice cozy spot...like underneath the dresser,,,then she noticed a neat cave under there and crawled up into it...

beardies are known for there very creative hiding places, impossible to find,,,,she's there, but very well hidden

i was going to suggest the same thing as taz - looking under dressers, and other furniture with short legs coz she's probably taking a nap.

another thing you can do (an idea that people used for lost leopard geckos... but i twisted to fit a beardie...lol) is...

put a basking branch with a basking light on top of it using a table lamp or a clamp lamp, etc. next to it keep the bottle of crix and a shallow dish of water.

if she went downstairs, you can try having another one of those there too. when she feels like it's basking time and wants to heat up, she'll move towards the heat lamps and bask on the branch.

i hope it works! its just my little idea, but if anyone thinks of something else, please chime in~ was just a thought good luck finding her!!

thanks a lot TAZ and aimee, im going to try the basking lamp idea. i just hope she didnt fall off the ledge (its about an 8 foot drop) i would die if i found her in serious pain this whole time... i looked just now on the whooooooole top floor, in the garbage bins, under the dryer, under the dishwasher, EVERYWERE. my basement is unfinished and we just finished moving, so theres no hope searching down there. 2morrow i will set up another spot in the basement with a basking light and flour spread around it. im going to be in school but im going to tell my mom to watch it every so often, to see if she shows up. oh yeah and would anybody know how long she can go for? im going to set up little food stations with pellets. even if i dont find her in a while, it will calm me to know that she does have food. i am searching relentlessly and would like to know how long she cand go for on her own? the basement is pretty cold at night, especially on the concrete floor, hopefully the basking spots will tempt her. thanks for the help!!!

Another thing, if you have any cats or dogs you might want to put them in a room where they can't get out for the night. Good luck finding her.

That's a good odea clay.... And I was thinking the same thing as Aimee.... I wouldn't worry too much.... I seen a pair of beardies that were left in an apartment by the people who mived out in a 10 gallon aquarium for at least 7 days with no water or food and they survived. They didn't look very good and it ttok some serious rehabilitation but they did make it with no known permanent damage.

I had a buddy lose his and found her a week later sunning herswelf OUT SIDE! on the paved driveway!!! I would definately set up a basking area ASAP.... Night time mioght be the best time to leave the basking area open as she will be drawn to the bright light? Just my thoughts.....

Keep us updated!

This is coming from MY own experience in losing a bearded.

Calm down, they can (IN MY OPINION) sense fear and tension and it makes them want to hide more. Try calling out her name and see if she'll come out that way.

Look in the spots you've already looked at.

I lost my bearded, Hades, on Father's day this year. Only I lost him OUTside. I checked in under the van cause that's where he ran, and then in the bushes with no luck. Next day I found him right as it was starting to rain in the bushes I had already checked. Sitting there like WTF happened? He was so stunned he didn't even try to bite me he ran into my hands and into my shirt to get warm. I took him inside and put 2 more heat lamps on his cage to get it extra warm and gave him gutloaded wax worms and his salad.

If you have household plants, try there, she might hide there.

Under beds in closets, heck even in boxes, look everywhere. Do it room by room and take your time in each room. Make sure when you go in one room, that you put a towel under the door so if she's in there, she won't be able to sneak out. But only do that when checking the room. If you have checked it top to bottom put a little food and water in there and leave the towel on the outside so if she's in there, and you didn't find her, she has to stay there.

JUST MY OPINION. You can take it or leave it.

i want to thank everyone who helped me, all your tips and tricks were appreciated. 2 mins ago i was just sitting on my comp, looking sadly on at the new posted topics about people getting new herps, wondering were my little girl was. i heard scratching, looking around the room, i saw my other beardy Rosco, sitting looking around also. i looked in the cabinet of the base of her tank, and there she wasm sitting inside there. i was so HAPPY! but the funny thing is, there was about 45 pounds of books piled up against that cabinet. i searched all the cabinets in the room accept that ONE! URGH! yeah well everybody thank you!
