feeding question

crochuntermyhero Jul 01, 2003 09:34 AM

i've been wondering since ball pythons have very small necks is it better to feed them smaller meals more often than a large meal sparingly? for example

would it be better to feed a ball python 1 small rat or 4/5 mice in one feeding? it seems like it'd be a little stressfull for the python to squeeze a large prey item down its small throat
any advice is appreciated

Well i tryed feeding myn 2 tiny rats and he only ate one cos i think he thorght like 'well thats my lunch for now' and forgot about the other one. Now i feed him a medium rat every 2 weeks or a small one every week.It worked better for my friends feeding one largeish food item than lots of small ones as well.(But maybe our snakes are thick)

...GENERALLY speaking it's better to feed smaller food items more frequently...many species incl BP's have evolved to eat relatively large food items as they happen along in the wild, but that's the wild. SJM
