Fat-tail Diet?

pdm Nov 23, 2004 10:00 AM

I was told at the pet store when I got my African fat-tail that meal worms & crickets would be his main diet. Well I have had him a week & he wont touch meal worms at all & he has only eaten one cricket. Am I feeding him the wrong stuff? Do i dust the crickets once a week with calcium powder? Does he need the multi vitamin powder dusting once a week also like my beardie?

That is the correct diet, I've had my AFT for like a week too and he hasn't eaten one bite. Could be because he's about to shed, or because of the stress of moving. They also won't eat if temps are too low. From what others told me on this forum, you shouldn't worry if they don't eat right off the bat because of the above mentioned factors (read posts below, they might help you out). Because they store all their extra nutrients in their tail, as long as he has a nice "meaty" tail and looks pretty chubby all over, he's okay. I'm giving my gecko two weeks and if he doesn't eat then I will take him to the vet and see if he is impacted or something.
