Veldmuis Nov 23, 2004 11:59 AM

Hello everybody,

A while ago I send a post about a good book. If you know a good book about cobras then just let me know.

Best wishes,

Dennis.

Hi Dennis,

You might try and get a hand on the following:

Venomous snakes of the world by W.P. Mara (Published by TFH) ISBN: 0-86622-522-6

A complete guide to the snakes of Southern Africa by Johan Marais ISBN1-86812-380-4

or Poisonous snakes of the world published by the US Navy
I don't know if this one is still in stock, but in my book it says it can be ordered through: The Superintendent of Documents, U.S. Government printing office Washington DC 20402
Stock number: 008-045-00009-7

Or you cuold try to get L. Trutnau's book on venomous snakes in captivity

good luck

Thank you for your reply. Do you keep cobras? If you do, just tell me something about it.

Best wishes,

Dennis.

The Bean Farm sells a book titled "Venomous Snakes in the Terrarium" and was rewritten in english by the German author who has been working with venomous for decades. I was a bit skeptical at first but once I started reading it, it seems as though much of the information is extremely good. There are tidbits on natural history and husbandry which I particularly liked. Definitely a must have for anyone keeping venomous. I will preface this by saying that I didn't fully agree with some of the safety/emergency protocol aspects but overall, a very good read.

Hi Rob:

I agree the section about snakebite treatment needs yet another re-write but there is tons of good basic captive care information in the book. I just finished it and if only people would buy it there would be lots less to write about on these forums cuz they all would be "experts" then.... LOL

I believe Harry Green's book has quite a bit on elapids and is all around a good book to have. It is called "Snakes: The Mystery of Evolution" I think
