Hello,

I am new to this forum. I have had a barred tiger salamander for the past 8 years. His name is H.R. PuffnStuff and he's great. I am writing today because I have noticed that his left eye is clouded over. It looks like a cataract, but when I searched the archives of this forum I saw several mentions of eye infections that could cause an eye to become cloudy. I have a few questions:

1) Is it possible that this is an age-related cataract? I do not know exactly how old H.R. is. He was already an adult when I acquired him, although he has grown quite a bit since then.

2) Is there any way to tell if eye clouding is caused by an infection vs. a cataract?

3) If it is an eye infection, I read on the archives that a type of fish medication can be used. (I have forgotten the name of it now - I'll have to look it up again.) Can someone please tell me how one goes about using such medication? H.R. spends most of his time on land. Would I have to confine him in a small aquarium during his treatment? Is it okay to keep him soaking in water for several days with no access to land?

Please forgive me if these questions seem silly -- I want to restore H.R. sight to his eye if I can but am hesitant to use drugs if I don't know what I'm doing. Thanks in advance.
